3d printers, hackers and more

Welcome again to another addition of GEEK news. Today I want to talk about a really cool idea put into reality. A new breed of printers have arrived, 3D printers.

design of a current 3d printer

Yes you heard right, soon the average person will be able to purchase a 3d printer, take it home, tell the computer what you want to design, and make an actual 3D image right inside your living room.

Plastic plane modeled with printer

How does it work: well it works much like our traditional printers, but instead of using ink 3d printers use molten plastic, waxes and different types of material to produce your object. Basically, liquid plastic is fused using a laser to create layers and layers on top of each other until the desired object is created. It is then left to dry, afterwards resulting in a useable 3d object.

So If I lost a button on my shirt, I could put in the specs of the object, re-create it, and be able to use it as if I had my own manufacturing plant. I think that's pretty high tech!!

Next up in current news, "Anonymous hackers" aka Anon. For those who don't know, Anonymous is a group of well, anonymous hackers. This is not an ordinary group, if you piss them off they will make sure you pay, and big time. Just ask Republic Senator Chuck Grassley, who recently supported his view on anti-piracy laws. Well the Anonymous hackers did not take kindly to this, in retaliation they hacked his twitter account and told supporters to vote against SOPA and Anti-piracy laws.

Also for those who don't know Megaupload, the 13th most visited site in the world which accounts for 4% of the internet was shut down recently due to charges on Counterfeiting, laundering and piracy. Well Anonymous hackers in retaliation to this not just shut down, but deleted the entire CBS webpage. They also managed to hack into 3 Brazilian bank websites, and Universal pictures website.  see links at end of page for more.

As always, stay tuned till next time for more tech news....

Welcome to my page. My name is Brandon and I will be blogging about new technology and science articles that I find interesting. A little about myself: I am 26 years old, Married and have 3 beautiful children. I am in school for Computer Science and networking, work full time and I just started my own Computer Business BRITT GEEK.

I think gadgets and technology are crucial in todays society. And I plan on sharing some interesting things. Stay tuned.

Ok, so starting off, the thing I am most excited about this month. Raspberry PI computers are small handheld computers that are only $35. They are due to go on sale next month and include everything you will need for a computer (except a case). The computers are meant to spark interest in children and adults who wish to learn and construct there own computers and gadgets.

I personally will be using the device as a streaming player for Netflix, Music and home movies. Below is a link and picture of the computer. It comes with an HDMI port to hook to a big screen, an ethernet port to connect to the internet and 2 USB ports to connect keyboards and what-not.

Also in news, T-mobile will be the first provider to offer small business and retail stores with the square credit card slider. It will allow you to connect a Credit Card reader to your phone, and swipe credit cards as a way for purchases. I can only imagine what will be happening next.

And for some statistic lessons, did you know:
-91 per cent of Americans aged 28 to 35 use their mobile devices on the toilet.

-a quarter of Americans say they won't go to the toilet without their phone
63 per cent have answered calls, 41 per cent have called someone else, and 16 percent in the 28-to-35 group have made purchases there.

-And the last stat that got me was : an amazing 20 per cent of males have joined conference calls from the toilet, compared to 13 per cent of women.

So next time you get a call, you can safely guess it is probably from the toilet.
